Evan Webster
Chairman - Board of Directors

Evan Webster started his career in Charlotte as a CPA with the international accounting firm Haskins & Sells, where he worked from 1969 to 1983. In 1984, he started his own accounting firm and today serves as its president. Webster graduated from Duke University in 1969 with a degree in accounting and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. While in Charlotte, he was president of both the Dilworth Community Development Association and Mecklenburg Duke Alumni Club, and served on the Charlotte Mecklenburg Citizens Forum and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Since moving to Davidson in 1990, he has been chairman of the Planning Board. Webster currently serves on the Davidson Board of Commissioners.

Webster and his wife, Marcia, have four children.


Ken Essex
Board of Directors

Kenneth F. Essex is a founding member of the law firm of Essex Richards, P.A. For more than 35 years his practice has centered on the representation of business entities. Essex grew up in Winston-Salem and received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College. After serving as an Army officer in Vietnam, he returned to North Carolina and earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina.

He has served on the Dowd YMCA Board of Managers, Mecklenburg County Literacy Council Board of Directors, Friendship Trays Board of Directors, and Mecklenburg County Bar Executive Committee. He has also chaired the Nominating Committee and Legal Services for the Elderly Committee for the Mecklenburg County Bar.

Essex and his wife, Faye, live in Davidson and have five adult children.


John Kasberger
Board of Directors

John L. Kasberger is senior vice president and general merchandising manager for Lowe’s Companies Inc., where he has led the company to the number two position of national retailers in appliance sales. The University of Kansas graduate is a voting member of the Lowe’s Brand Development Board and a board director of Lowe’s Global Sourcing Company. In a retail career spanning more than 30 years, he has served in senior positions at Best Products Company, a national catalog and jewelry retailer, and at Present Company, a regional northeast retailer. His areas of expertise include venture capital funding and international commerce regulations.  As a Lowe’s representative, Kasberger has been active in the Whirlpool/Lowe’s Habitat for Humanity, United Way and Home Safety Council.

Kasberger and his wife, Susan, have three sons and live in Mooresville.


Steven A. Miller
Board of Directors

Steve Miller is general manager and partner in Retherford-Miller & Associates in Charlotte, a strategic multi-media consulting firm focusing on revenue growth for television, radio, sports marketing, interactive, online and emerging technology companies. Founded in 1999, RMA specializes in corporate strategy, advertising, marketing and business development.

Miller’s strategic vision, knowledge and influence, backed by two decades of media industry experience, have helped organizations meet the complex challenges of today's marketplace. He spent 18 years with Time Warner Cable Inc. and AOL in California and the Mid-Atlantic region as vice president of ad sales. He also developed and launched two North Carolina cable TV news networks, as well as C-SET, the Charlotte Bobcats’ basketball sports and entertainment cable TV network. Miller holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.

Miller and his wife, Susan, moved to Cornelius, North Carolina, in 2002. They have two children – Holly, 12, and Bryce, 8.


Ronald Steen
Board of Directors

Ron Steen serves as executive vice president of Charlotte-based Lincoln Harris, a firm specializing in real estate and property/facilities management. He graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree and holds active broker licenses in Arizona, Georgia and Oklahoma. He has also served as president of the Tulsa Chapter of NAIOP National Association of Industrial and Office Properties. His responsibilities include the supervision of the CSG portfolio consisting of 40 core corporate clients with services ranging from project and facility management to development and finance. Steen is also responsible for new business development, client relations and has been involved in strategic planning, portfolio modeling and net occupancy cost overviews for several clients such as HCA, Piedmont Natural Gas and Carolinas HealthCare System.

Steen and his wife, Carol, have three children and live in Davidson.


Erskine Smith
Board of Directors

After having served the Town of Mooresville first as planning director and then as assistant town manager, Erskine Smith assumed the role of interim town manager in February 2008.

Over a career spanning 30 years, Smith has gained expertise in such areas as budget preparation; project administration; property acquisitions; intergovernmental relations; community development; planning, zoning and engineering; and day-to-day civic management. He held previous positions as assistant to the executive director of the Mooresville-South Iredell Chamber of Commerce and as a department manager/buyer for Belk.

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and has completed the majority of coursework for a Master of Urban Administration. A 1993 graduate of the Carolinas Leadership Program, he is a recipient of the Mooresville Citizen of the Year and Jaycees Distinguished Leadership awards.

The organizations that have benefited from this community leader’s involvement include numerous city management, planning and zoning associations; the Mooresville A.R. Presbyterian Church; Mooresville Volunteer Fire Department; Mooresville Foundation for Excellence in Education; and Friend of Scouting – among others.

Smith and his wife, Connie, reside in Mooresville and have three sons.
